DailyOM: In the course, you speak about the transition of a victim mindset. Can you elaborate on what a victim mindset is?
Kelly: Sure! A victim mindset is a way of thinking that is rooted in blame and non-accountability. While many of us are victims of trauma from our past and are not to blame for what occurred — especially if we were vulnerable children — we need to take accountability for our healing at some point. A victim mentality loves to hold onto resentment, blame, and powerlessness. The unhealed subconscious mind or ego clings tightly to these lower emotions. A victim mindset is someone who has been conditioned to think and feel as though the world is against them and that bad things are constantly happening. They feel as though everyone else is to blame, be that their partner, coworkers, or even family and friends. They feel victimized and powerless in most situations.
But what is so wonderful is that when we start to work on the transition of a victim mindset, we release powerlessness and start to become empowered. The warrior mindset (the opposite of a victim mindset) takes accountability for any needed healing. This can be done through becoming responsible for the creation of new thoughts, emotions, and habits. We will learn how to create new perceptions regarding past pain, which sets up an alignment for emotional freedom to occur. . When we create the mindset of a warrior, our lives become happy, responsible, powerful, and free. This is where the magic happens — true and deep healing of stored trauma begins!
DailyOM: Can you tell us a little bit more about stored trauma? In simple terms, what is it?
Kelly: Of course. Every human being on the planet has experienced childhood and past trauma in some form. However, some people live through more trauma than others. Past trauma is generally described as serious, painful past experiences. Children, teenagers, and adults may go through specific incidents that classify as psychological trauma, such as neglect, abandonment, sexual, emotional, or physical abuse, the loss of a parent as a child, bullying, divorce, toxic relationships, severe illness, experiencing a war, living through a disturbing event, and so on.
When we live through the initial emotional or physical hurt from a traumatic event, we create an inner wound. This unhealed wound is then stored within the cellular structure of the subconscious mind and body. What we also do from that point on is create specific painful beliefs about ourselves and/or others. Additionally, we tend to develop unhelpful coping mechanisms and learned behaviors as a result of the experience. The stored trauma is also triggered when we are presented with a situation that is similar to the past event.
DailyOM: If an individual works on releasing stored trauma, will this also start the healing of their triggers and dysfunctional learned behaviors, too?
Kelly: Exactly! Anybody who takes the course will have a method to identify and shift their stored trauma. Not only that, but they also will have the exact blueprint to work on the healing of any overwhelming triggers. These two combined set up the commencement process of an awareness and dissolution of any unhelpful coping mechanisms and behaviors. It really is such a transformative and healing course, and I am so excited that DailyOM is offering it on its platform.
DailyOM: What types of tools do you share to help with this healing?
Kelly: Not only does the course have access to powerful cognitive tools, I also show how to do somatic experiencing. We talk about how individuals must see and feel the "e-motion" (energy in motion) pass through their body. We must allow the emotions to flow, and that could mean crying or punching a pillow. The emotions need to flow through our veins so we can process and feel each one. As we face and truly feel all previously blocked and resisted cellular memories, we set up somatic experiencing and releasing of stored trauma.
What I have discovered after facilitating more than 15,000 one-on-one sessions in the last 20 years is that if I can guide my clients to do deep somatic shifts and then combine this with cognitive transitions, a full mind, body, and soul transformation occurs. It is so beautiful to witness. We learn both these specific somatic and cognitive methods within the course.
DailyOM: What healing changes might someone see in their life, as a result of completing this course?
Kelly: There are so many things! They will gain self-awareness, which is the first step to change. They will learn to identify stored trauma, specific mind perceptions, and any self-sabotaging habits of healing through victimized thinking. Also, as they go through the transitions within the course, they will benefit from the shifts in their emotional state, which brings the beautiful feelings of relief, compassion, inner peace, gratitude, and joy. These changes create an increase in self-love and self-esteem. Lastly, now that they have a blueprint for healing triggers at their fingertips, they will experience less conflict and more empowerment within their relationships. There are just so many benefits!
DailyOM: Kelly, thank you for creating this transformative course. This is a truly life-changing course, filled with profound insights and tools to support you in cultivating greater self-awareness and deep healing. Until next time, be well.
