Interview With Jannine Murray DailyOM: What inspired you to create this unique 21-day fitness course? What can students expect?
Jannine Murray: I was inspired to create this course after hearing most people's common excuses to not work out, such as little time, energy, and money. So, this course is a good option for people who don't have much time, want to build their strength and energy, and need a program that isn't expensive. Excuses such as these don't have to stop you from moving your body and getting in shape -- this course is great for overcoming barriers and limitations within our busy lives.
DailyOM: The workouts are only 5 minutes. Can you really get a good total body workout in such a short amount of time?
JM: You can definitely stimulate fat loss, muscle building, your metabolism, and your energy production within 5 minutes! It really all adds up in the day, so adding as much movement to your day as possible and a short intense workout such as these can boost your metabolism for up to 24 hours after. You can also do the video a few times in one day to get even more bang for your buck, if you want more of a challenge. I teach three different levels in each workout video, so you can intensify as you progress and adapt it to suit your needs -- this allows for a very effective total body workout! The moves are challenging, dynamic, and work the body from multiple different angles and ranges of motion, allowing for more muscle recruitment and nervous system stress, breaking down old neural pathways, and challenging the body in ways our everyday life just does not offer. You will definitely be sweating and feeling alive after just 5 minutes.
DailyOM: You collaborated with a Kundalini yoga teacher, Sanja Avramovic. Tell us more about this part of the course.
JM: I was inspired to add Kundalini Yoga to this course from my own personal healing and fitness journey. Kundalini Yoga is great for cultivating energy, working on the mental and emotional bodies for clarity, healing, and full body integration. Kundalini Yoga uses breathwork and very unique types of yoga postures to purify the subtle body of blocks, barriers, and limitations, raising Kundalini energy and the life force. It was a very powerful part of my personal transformation, so I was inspired to share it within this course for anyone looking for a greater sense of wellbeing, energy, mental clarity, and spiritual purification.
DailyOM: You offer lots of helpful nutrition and self-care tips in every lesson. What are a few of your favorite tips that you can share with us?
JM: I would have to say the energy enhancing tips through diet are one of my favorite tips. So many people just do not know how to combine food properly, which can lead to common complaints such as bloating, gas, belching, and feeling unwell in their bodies and digestive system. How you eat and how you combine macronutrients such as protein, carbs, and fats can either enhance or hinder your fat loss, digestion, and energy. I also love the intuitive eating principles and flexible eating guidelines I share. Weight loss, eating clean, and diet do not have to come from a place of control and restriction; it can come from a place of tuning into your body to build that loving, nurturing relationship with what your body needs and how it speaks to you through dis-ease and dysfunction. A lot of people are disconnected from how their body speaks to them on a daily basis, as we simply are not taught this way. If we can tune in and listen to how we feel and how our bodies respond to us, we can discover all the answers we seek for restoring well-being from within us. This is something that can be very hard to teach, but if you have the right framework and give it a chance, your body will show you the way.
DailyOM: You teach about mastering our morning routine. Why do you love mornings? How do you motivate people to make the most of their morning routine?
JM: Morning is the most important part of your day; it sets the tone for either fat burning or fat storing. When we wake up after sleeping, the body is acidic and needs proper care to be cleansed, alkalized, and energized. The lymph and liver also need special attention at this time, as the liver is responsible for fat burning and the lymph system works to cleanse the blood and facilitate our immune system and energy production. If these two systems are sluggish, our energy will be greatly diminished and feelings of dis-ease are common. I give a great structure to master your morning routine that includes proper hydration with lemon water, alkalization with a green juice or celery juice, then the best foods to kickstart your metabolism for optimal health, healing, weight loss, and vitality. I also list the foods that are ideal for you and the foods you'll want to stay away from -- to ensure you get the best results from this course!
