DailyOM: For those who are new to reiki, briefly explain what it is and how it helps people. Is it something anyone can practice?
Rosalyn: Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that helps to relieve stress and pain, induce relaxation, and release emotional blockages. It's a natural and safe method of healing and self-improvement that anyone can use. It's based on the idea that there is an unseen life-force energy that flows through all of us. If our life-force energy is low, then our immune systems are not able to function properly to keep us healthy and vibrant, meaning we cannot think as clearly as we'd like and we feel drained at times.
Electricity runs through wires to give us energy to light our homes and run our appliances. Reiki is similar to this, but you're the conduit for the life force that animates you, and reiki can help enhance this energy in you. It can also assist people with receiving from and connecting with a higher aspect of themselves. This life-force energy flows through all of us, whether you call it your soul, higher self, or universal wisdom. Yes, I'm very happy to say anyone can practice reiki.
DailyOM: In your course, you teach "reiki symbols." Tell us about one of these symbols and how it works.
Rosalyn: Cho Ku Rei is the first symbol and it means "bring all the power of the universe here." From my experience, this symbol brings you fully into this present moment. When I activate this symbol, I have an acute awareness of the room I am in, my breath, my body, and the sounds around me. It is as if I just meditated for 20 minutes. Many of my students have told me they have similar experiences with this symbol.
DailyOM: This course goes over the three systems of energy, such as the chakras. How do reiki and these energy systems work together?
Rosalyn: The word chakra means "spinning wheel of energy" and comes from many different ancient texts. There are seven main ones that are related to different areas of our lives, whether it is communication, love, or simply having your basic needs met, such as food and a place to live. If a chakra becomes blocked, it can have a significant impact on physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Reiki creates flow and it opens a conduit for healing energy to come through.
By intentionally directing the energy of reiki toward your chakras, through giving yourself a reiki treatment as taught in this course, you are opening a space of transformation for lower energy patterns to become higher, more beautiful. By activating the reiki symbols in this course, you are activating your own healing power. And this usually creates better feelings and thoughts, and more creativity.
DailyOM: What has been your experience with reiki? How has it benefited your life?
Rosalyn: I use reiki to create more beauty, order, and light in my life, whether it is my health, my relationships, my home, or my business. I find it is useful for helping others, and I often send distance reiki to people if they are experiencing a difficulty and need extra support. Whether it is a health challenge, a relationship, a situation, or an event, if I send reiki to it, it becomes more beautiful, uplifting, and harmonious. Reiki lifts my emotions and thoughts to become more positive, so I use it every day.
Just five minutes of activating the symbols and sending reiki to your day ahead can have a profound effect on your life. One of my favorite ways to use it is in my home, especially if I need to clear clutter. I just activate the symbols and send reiki to any clutter or things I am procrastinating on, and then I energetically feel drawn to take action on cleaning, clearing, or dealing with things I have not wanted to deal with.
DailyOM: What is the most important takeaway(s) you hope students will gain from this course?
Rosalyn: Reiki is a very useful tool that can be easily learned by anyone. Learning reiki in this course will allow you to become more intuitive and sensitive to the energy around yourself. When most people hear the word reiki, they think it is for healing the body only. After people take this course and apply the lessons taught, they will be able to easily activate and use reiki as a helpful tool on a daily basis to enhance their spiritual path or any area of their life they would like to transform into a more beautiful experience.
Learning reiki is simple — it just takes a bit of practice. You can send it to your relationships, your home, your next steps, or anything else you would like to shift and bring to a higher level of beauty and order, flow and light.
