DailyOM: With all the symptoms women face in the menopausal years, why do you primarily focus on the menopausal middle (shedding belly bloat and fat)?
Jacqui: Of all the menopausal symptoms women face, the menopausal middle is historically the most annoying symptom of all. In my many years working with women struggling with stubborn hormonal weight gain, I discovered that by just focusing on shedding belly fat and bloat, every other menopausal symptom is made better as an added bonus. Eliminating or even just reducing belly fat and bloat not only helps women quickly transform into a lighter, happier, and more energetic version of themselves, it increases their wellness exponentially by decreasing their risk factors for almost all chronic health issues that become more prevalent in menopause (heart disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, some cancers, and even Alzheimer's disease).
DailyOM: How is this course different from your Shedding Your Menopausal Middle in 10 Days course?
Jacqui: That's a fabulous question and one that I think many of our readers may be wondering about. The 10-day course is an intensive, fast-paced, information-packed plan for quickly shedding excess bloat and belly fat, decreasing inflammation, and increasing your energy. This course includes the same successful steps as the first but gives the student the option of deciding which pace works best for them. They also have the choice of including one or all of the therapeutic recipes in their plan or going with the Quick & Easy options instead. For those readers who follow a plant-based diet, this course includes plant-based options for each of the daily meal recipes.
For those readers who have taken my 10-day course, this course is the natural next step, as it includes a maintenance plan that guides the student on how to either continue shedding their menopausal middle or maintain their results. For those readers who are new to this course, it contains all the steps needed to shed their menopausal middle as well as maintain their results.
DailyOM: Besides shedding belly fat and bloat, what are some of the other benefits students should look forward to?
Jacqui: I love this question because when it comes down to it, isn't it always all about the benefits? As if reducing or even totally eliminating belly fat and bloat weren't enough, taking this course results in so many other wonderful and totally unexpected benefits that often become more important than the expected ones. Some of the other life-changing benefits students can look forward to are: more energy, improved sleep. a reduction (or elimination) of hot flashes and other hormonal symptoms, clearer thinking, more vibrant, youthful appearance, weight loss (if needed), rejuvenated libido, and a happier outlook and greater enjoyment of life.
DailyOM: Maintenance of any goal is usually the hardest part. How do you help students maintain the results they have achieved going forward?
Jacqui: Just as important as achieving results is sustaining those results, so a realistic maintenance plan that allows for some wiggle room while still maintaining results is absolutely critical to long-term success. Feeling energetic, symptom free, and keeping your menopausal middle in retirement is a lifelong journey; in other words, it takes hormone-balancing maintenance. To help maintain that balance, each of the nine maintenance lessons include dietary and lifestyle components from each of the three phases. It's unrealistic to think that people will never again include some hormone-unfriendly foods in their diet, so step-by-step instructions are clearly outlined for adding back some of these avoided foods without sabotaging results.
Two entire lessons are dedicated to the most important aspects of maintenance, which are staying on track and breaking plateaus. In addition, each of the nine lessons will include a common maintenance or wellness concern with prevention tips and recipes to address each concern. Because mindset is always key to the success of any goal, a specific visualization exercise and mantra will be included. As accountability to oneself is extremely important at this phase, students are encouraged to continue to journal and measure their progress along the way.
DailyOM: Tell us how you laid out this 14-day course.
Jacqui: The lessons in this course are packed with real, sustainable, and actionable steps and the following road map to follow that will lead students to their desired end result. Step 1: Make a mindset change for "the change" (Lesson 1): Students will use their Belly-Shedding Visualization Technique and Belly-Shedding Mantra to help shift the mental image they now have of themselves to the mental image of where they want to be. Doing this will help them to imagine how good they will feel when they reach their desired end result, making their journey quicker, easier, and more enjoyable.
Step 2: The three shedding phases of our program (Lessons 2-4): In Phases 1, 2, and 3, students will make the dietary and lifestyle changes that will result in shedding their menopausal middle, as well as reducing or eliminating the symptoms that accompany it such as hot flashes, mood swings, brain fog, insomnia, and low libido. They will do each phase for one week (or longer if they prefer to take things more slowly) and then move on to Step 3: Your Hormone-Balancing Maintenance Plan For Life Phase (Lessons 5-14). This is where all three phases come together and are integrated into each day. In addition, each day, we will touch on a common maintenance concern or important menopausal health concern. At this point, some of the students will have reached their belly-shedding goal and some of them will have some shedding yet to do. Depending on what their situation is, they will follow one of two paths for the remainder of the course to arrive at their desired end result.
DailyOM: Can this course help women who are dealing with perimenopause and/or prepare them for menopause? Would it be an advantage to start a program like this as early as possible?
Jacqui: Absolutely and in fact, the earlier in a women's perimenopause she starts a program like this, the easier and less symptomatic experience she will have. The menopausal years (from perimenopause to postmenopause) can be an exciting, liberating, and empowering time in a woman's life. Often though, these years are tainted by symptoms that we don't understand, leaving us feeling tired, scattered, confused, and just not ourselves. By adopting the dietary, lifestyle, and mindset principles laid out in this course, women can help to keep their hormones naturally balanced, avoid the common menopausal symptoms so many women needlessly suffer from, and have a much more positive and healthy experience.
