DailyOM: What is this course about? Who is it for?
Jumana: This course is about returning women to a real sense of sovereignty and fulfillment through their own sexuality, regardless of what their current relationship status might be. Women often inaccurately assume that intimacy is less than what it really can be. It is taken for granted that sexual fire will burn hot but quickly, that there will be an inevitable loss of desire in a long-term relationship. Or that no matter how promising a relationship seems, it is inevitable that power dynamics will develop that eventually destroy true intimacy.
On the other end of the spectrum, some women submit to an unwanted and dry solitude or deal with heartbreaks that never seem to heal. Many of us, even if we do find ourselves in an intimate relationship that has potential, end up in endless confusion about what we really want, believing that settling or compromising is the only option.
It is ultimately from a place of self-authority and sexual self-possession that relationships are changed, intimacy is reignited, and women come to really understand what it means to feel intact, balanced, and sacred as a sexual being.
DailyOM: This course has a strong focus on aligning with our energy and our creative self-expression. Why are they important in fostering intimate relationships?
Jumana: Intimate relationships can only thrive to the degree that we know ourselves. Aligning with our personal energy and cultivating it as a sacred practice is the only way we can authentically bring everything that we are to a relationship. True intimacy only happens in the presence of authenticity, and this means all of your authenticity — your authentic desires, feelings, and truths, the entire spectrum, from ecstatic to terrified, fully turned on to totally turned off.
Intimacy also requires that we are able to open to our own creative self-expression. Sometimes women assume that it will be the chemistry with a particular partner or the skill of a particular lover that will open them up to or take them to new intimate terrain. While it is obviously important who we choose to share ourselves with, they still aren't ultimately the conduit to our own unlimited, dynamic power. The extent to which we know ourselves will dictate the extent to which we can invite someone else in to know us. We really can't expect to guide anyone else into a terrain that we have not yet explored.
DailyOM: What kinds of practices and homework do you provide?
Jumana: The written content of the course is full of deep feminine wisdom and what I think of as basic energetic/emotional hygiene for any female sexual being. Ideally, we should tend to our own emotional clarity and sexual fire with the same regularity that we brush our teeth. The practices in the course are guided meditations that begin to gently open up inner terrain and personal revelation.
A closer relationship to your sexual current and essential energy can be supported or catalyzed by someone else, but it can't be given by them. The practices serve as guides into your inner terrain, where you can experience self-revelation that is authentic, true, and trustworthy. The homework is kept intentionally simple, and it offers opportunities to apply that awareness, ensuring that the work done throughout the course is fully integrated into the student's daily life.
DailyOM: If someone is feeling stagnant and emotionally frustrated in a long-term relationship but isn't sure what to do, what's an important first step for him/her?
Jumana: I would say the first step is to take the focus off of the relationship and to put it fully on the relationship between themselves and their own sexual current, emotional needs, and stagnancy. It's too easy, and ultimately way too frustrating, to focus on the relationship dynamics and get stuck there.
Always, always, always the way that magnetism and deep feminine influence work is to come fully home to ourselves, change the fabric of our own being, and allow that to realign our relationships and our world, rather than us trying to change or have control over what is outside of us. At the heart of it, when we are focusing on the stagnancy or the other person or the dynamics, we are feeding them, often even crystallizing and solidifying the "problem" by trying so hard to fix it.
It can feel overwhelming to address stagnancy, numbness, or confusion inside of ourselves because it may also be accompanied by a sense of hopelessness or helplessness. So it feels safer or easier to address it as something outside of ourselves — the relationship, the other person, etc. — even though ultimately the opposite is true. That is why it's so helpful and important to work with a course like this, where there is support and a level of guidance for the necessary internal work that needs to be done. We aren't meant to walk this terrain alone.
DailyOM: You teach about our feminine power, such as the sacred bowl and womb. Tell us more about how tapping into this power nourishes us.
Jumana: I've worked with thousands of women and what continues to fascinate me is that even women who have strong meditation, yoga, embodiment, or other spiritual practices almost always express that tapping into the sacred bowl and womb is like inhabiting a place in themselves that they had forgotten.
There's often an ease with the mind, the heart, or the body as a whole, but an absence when it comes to the sacred bowl and womb. There are some reasons for this, notably the vilification of female sexuality over millennia, and the truth that even most meditation and yoga practices were created without women, uninformed by the real magic and power of the female body.
So, when I refer to deep feminine power, I'm referring to a current of ancient and regenerative power that wells up in women, which is held like a reservoir in the womb and sacred bowl. This is, not coincidentally, where our sexual center resides as well. This source of power and energy feeds us, nourishes us, and actually provides a source of wisdom and regenerative vitality that guides and heals us.
DailyOM: Thanks, Jumana! Her passion is contagious, and her energy is felt throughout this course. Jumana shows you how precious and powerful your feminine energy is and how it can be nourished so you feel truly alive and fully present. Until next time, be well.
