It might be easier to see both sides of various issues today. Perhaps because you are willing to weigh out both the positive and negative aspects of the problems in the world, you may feel more fair-minded. Being able to think things through thoroughly could give you greater awareness of the fact that nothing in life really exists in black and white. If you can remind yourself to see the various shades of gray that are present in the world around you today, you may become more sensitive not only to the issues you see but also to the needs of those who generally have opposing viewpoints. Seeing the whole picture can help you generate more compassion for the thoughts, feelings, and motives of others and make it easier for you to understand the range of diverse interests that exist around you.
When we open ourselves up to different ideas, we become more sensitive to the concerns of others. Even if we think we are receptive to new thoughts, many of us tend to stridently hold onto our opinions and cling to the labels we assign ourselves. To be truly fair, we need to relinquish the ideas we identify with and instead develop the ability to see that everything in our world contains all elements of existences -- the yin, or darker earthier side, and yang, or lighter and more active side. By understanding that there are many forces at work in the world today, your biases will lift and you will gain new perspectives on the issues that concern you.
