Interview With Suzanne Bryant

Madisyn Taylor: Hi Suzanne, your course is a comprehensive program that incorporates many aspects. Walk me through what this course looks like for a student.

Suzanne Bryant: Hi Madisyn, I am so thrilled to be sharing this course with DailyOM. Over the last 20-plus years, I have studied various modalities for antiaging. I am passionate about helping people truly look and feel younger than their years, and with all the research out there, I believe it's achievable.

I have created a course that can activate the youth genes in your body on all levels. You will learn daily practices that give you more youthful skin. Your energy levels will skyrocket. You will have more lift and tone in your face and body muscles, and your mind will be sharper. All these practices build upon each other, and by the end of the course you will have created new lifestyle habits that prevent and reverse aging. I will also dive into the research that backs up each practice to further inspire you.

SB: This is an all-encompassing approach to age reversal, and I guarantee you will look and feel more youthful than you have in years, even decades. MT: As you mentioned earlier, your course covers us from the inside to the outside of our bodies. In lesson 13 you teach about telomeres. What are they, and why are they important?

SB: Telomeres are an essential part of our human cells and have a tremendous impact on how we age. A telomere is a cap at the end of each strand of our DNA, similar to the cap at the end of your shoelaces. Its job is to protect our chromosomes. As we age, these caps break down and the DNA becomes frayed. Without those telomere caps to protect the chromosomes, they get damaged and tangled, which leads to poorly created cells and rapid aging.

Short telomeres naturally happen as we age, but research has found that we can slow this process with certain lifestyle habits to keep them from shortening. Stress, a poor diet, and lack of exercise lead to premature aging, as well as set us up for diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and osteoporosis.

MT: So how can we stop the shortening of our telomeres and stay in our ageless and youthful state?

SB: The key is lifestyle. Lifestyle is a huge contributing factor in our telomere length and how we age; each day we either contribute to our aging or stave off aging through our habits. This course will combat the shortening of our telomeres through specific yoga classes, foods, stress management tools, and lifestyle habits that are specifically focused on keeping your cells and telomeres lengthy and young.

MT: So, what are these habits?

SB: Let's start with yoga. Numerous studies show that yoga may reduce oxidative stress and preserve our DNA. This means longer telomere length and looking younger for those who are active daily. On the reverse, those who were sedentary looked much older than their counterparts and had shorter telomeres. Another important factor in supporting our telomere length is reducing chronic stress levels. This is why yoga is a powerful twofold punch: It is your daily exercise and stress reduction practice all rolled into one.

Also, specific foods can shorten our telomere length. In this course, all the daily food suggestions support telomere lengthening and preservation, and we also focus on DIY elixirs to help you look radiant and feel young.

MT: What is an important tip somebody can start doing today, in this very moment, to help with the antiaging process?

SB: One area that is critical is the level of sleep we get nightly. Studies show that a lack of sleep ages you by a decade, meaning if you sleep anything less than seven hours a night (and that means uninterrupted sleep), you are biologically 10 years older than your actual chronological age! The bottom line: Lack of sleep rapidly accelerates aging. Sleep is the master control of your entire body's system, and without it the body and brain start to break down and age. In this course, one of the pillars of your age-reversing process is sleep, yet it's not that simple. It takes practice to let go of stress and get a deep, uninterrupted eight hours of sleep. Sleep also requires certain foods that will support a good night's sleep. We cover all this in the course! We use meditation, yoga, and nutrition to support a deep and rejuvenating night's sleep for you.

MT: Most people over the age of 40 start to get very concerned about aging. Tell me about your aging philosophy.

SB: My philosophy on aging is remaining ageless. I believe that if you associate yourself with being ageless versus a number, then you can remain youthful and vibrant throughout your entire life. I also believe that there are certain non-negotiables, which I share in this course, that you must apply to your life if you want to maintain your youth. I don't think we should feel older just because the calendar says that we are a certain number each year -- it's about how you look and feel. Aging is a beautiful process, and the wisdom that comes with age is immeasurable. However, just like anything in life, if you want to maintain it (or your youthful looks and energy), you must take care of it. That same approach applies to our bodies. What we put into our bodies, minds, and spirit is what we see tangibly in our faces, bodies, and energy levels.

I am in my late 40s and I can honestly say that I feel just as young as I did in my mid-20s. However, I do not usually share my age when someone asks me. I smile and say, "I am ageless." I have always used the mantra "I am ageless" and don't fall into the trap of being older -- only wiser and more at peace with myself. I feel that when we respect our bodies and have compassion for ourselves, we can remain eternally youthful in body, mind, and spirit.

MT: What do you hope students will gain at the end of their 21 days?

SB: I know that my students will feel and look younger than they have in decades. They will be amazed at how eating certain foods and adopting the wellness habits I've shared can produce a visible and physical change in their skin, body, and energy. I offer my research, the latest science in aging, as well as ancient practices for maintaining the fountain of youth.

Students will be educated about the foods and lifestyle habits that accelerate aging, and they will know how to avoid them. They will commit to a lifestyle that shifts their perspective of what self-care means and what it can do for aging, understanding that these practices let them feel confident and eternally youthful, as well as help them to show up with vibrant energy for the people in their lives.
