Using Yourself as a Pendulum

Using your body as a pendulum is another tool you can use to access your higher wisdom.

Learning to trust our intuition is something that can connect us with our higher selves. Sometimes it might not seem easy to do this. Our thoughts and minds often get in the way. But by accessing our innermost self, we will find that the information we receive is usually what we truly need at that moment. One of the techniques that allows us to really get in touch with our deepest font of wisdom is using our body as a pendulum. The simple act of letting our physical being lead us in a certain direction can offer us extremely deep insights and help us find the answers we seek.

Many of us may have tried using a pendulum or crystal on a chain as a dousing tool to acquire the information we need to make decisions or even find lost objects. Using our bodies puts us much more closely in tune with our being. The process of using your body as a pendulum is to ask your higher self a question and wait for your body to respond in either a forward-tilting or backward-tilting motion. The first step is to really understand how our higher self communicates with us by centering our bodies, asking ourselves the directions for "yes" and "no," and noting which way our body moves. For a lot of people a forward motion is "yes," and your body tilting backward is a "no" answer. It is easier to start with simple questions at first to understand how our higher self communicates with us. As we become more used to the messages we receive and how we process them, we can start asking for more specific things such as what dosage of herbs to take or which foods would best nourish our bodies. Using this technique in the grocery store or when shopping for vitamins and remedies can be extremely helpful.

Since we are always present in our bodies, understanding how we can use our bodies as pendulums is a tool we can use at any given moment in our lives. Letting our bodies tell us what is happening inside of us will in turn help to guide us through not just daily but also major life decisions. The more we allow our bodies to open up and share with us the connection it has with our deeper self, the better able we will be to truly access the knowledge we hold so deeply within.

You may feel excitable and emotional about unexpected news today. Perhaps you become aware of a looming challenge that upsets your plans, or you may simply feel overwhelmed by something that will ultimately be good for you. Whether you perceive these events to be good or bad may depend solely on your reaction to them, and you can benefit by choosing to adopt an attitude of detachment from your emotions today. Rather than allowing yourself to be taken on a roller coaster ride of ups and downs based on your experiences, you can simply embrace an attitude of joy and acceptance for whatever may come your way. You may find it helpful to recite a calming affirmation throughout the day, such as: "I am centered and peaceful in all circumstances."

By choosing a neutral emotional state, we can better handle unexpected events. Though emotional reaction to powerful experiences is commonplace for most of us, we can also learn to take control of our emotional responses and create a stronger sense of inner balance. By choosing to detach from volatile emotions and instead embrace a consistent feeling of calm in every experience, we are still able to enjoy pleasant experiences and work through difficult ones. With a detached focus, we no longer feel controlled by our emotions and we discover we have the power to choose how we feel in any circumstance. All of your experiences can seem more valuable today if you detach from your emotional responses and adopt a focus on peace and joy in every moment.

The Unseen World

Exploring the unseen world can be well worth your while, as there are many gifts awaiting you there.

Just because we can't see something doesn't mean it doesn't exist, although this is a common way in which people deny the existence of spirit guides, angels, and other unseen helpers in our lives. However, anyone who has encountered such beings can attest to the fact that they do, indeed, exist, just as our breath exists, keeping us alive, even though we can't see it. The wind exists, too, but we only know this because we feel it on our skin and hear it moving the leaves on the trees. All around us and within us are things we can't see, and yet we know they are just as real as the grass beneath our feet.

What we see and don't see may just be a matter of perspective, like the ladybug who sees the leaf on which she sits, but not the tree the leaf grows on, or the person sitting beneath it. And the person beneath the tree may or may not see the ladybug, depending on where he focuses his attention. Still, all of these things, whether seen or not seen by the person or the ladybug, exist in reality. Some people are more gifted at accessing that which we cannot see, but given an open and willing heart, anyone can tune into the invisible realm and begin to find their way.

Human beings have always done this, and it is only recently that we have fallen into distrusting the existence of what we can't see. If you have lost touch with the unseen world, all you have to do is resolve to open your heart to its existence, and it will make itself known. Closing your eyes in meditation and visualization, or engaging the unseen through the written word, are just two ways to welcome the invisible back into your life. Whatever you choose to do, cultivating a relationship with that which you can't see is a time-honored human practice that can greatly enhance your life.
