You may feel distracted today which could be due to the difficulty you might have focusing your attention on your projects for long periods of time. Since it is only natural for your mind to wander from one thought to another, you may wish to keep in mind that your sense of being scattered is simply a product of your paying attention to the chatter that goes on inside your head. Perhaps trying a counting meditation today can help you regain some focus. Try taking a few minutes to, with eyes closed, still your breath. As your breath becomes steady, count each cycle of inhalations and exhalations beginning with one and ending with ten, and when you have finished, start again at one. This basic form of meditation, you may find, can make it easier for you to concentrate on one thing and might even lessen your sense of feeling preoccupied.

Counting meditation is a powerful tool for focusing the mind. When our thoughts run rampant, it is all too easy to listen to them – doing this, however, only diverts our attention even more. The act of taking a breath and giving our minds a particular point to concentrate on, though, keeps us from following our thoughts through and instead enables us to be present to ourselves and our breath. If troubling or distracting thoughts arise, instead of thinking about them, we can simply come back to counting our breaths. Using meditation to control your mind will free you from diversions and bring greater mindfulness to your actions today.
