One of the reasons yoga is so effective at alleviating pain in the lower back, neck and shoulders is that it works on a number of different levels simultaneously--loosening up joint restrictions, stretching tight muscles, re-activating weak muscles, adjusting alignment, relaxing the body and calming the mind. Yoga--along with a few other simple techniques--can be really effective at relieving the pain. We can release tension, restore range of motion and re-activate weakened muscles. A regular yoga practice has the potential to prevent and heal injury, to make you stronger, fitter, more supple, to enhance your physical performance and to sharpen your mental focus. However, with everything you have to do, I know that you don't have time to find a 90-minute yoga for recovery class to attend every week. I've put together this course to distill and simplify this crucial aspect of your wellbeing.
Yoga as the Antidote for the Stressors of Life As incredibly beneficial as an active lifestyle is to our physical and psychological health, unfortunately, there can be a downside if you don't put back what you take out. This is where active recovery techniques like yoga come in.
Being active can take a toll on our bodies in the following ways: - Repetitive strain. In life, we repeat the same movement patterns over and over which can cause uneven wear and tear on certain muscles and joints and establish muscular imbalances.
- Stress overload. Physical activity is a stressor, albeit a healthy one, so if you try to cram even a moderately active lifestyle on top of your already overwhelming work, family and social responsibilities, something is going to have to give.
- Loss of flexibility. When you do any physical activity your muscles get short and tight and if you don't stretch carefully afterwards to restore muscle tissue length, they can remain in this partially contracted state and you'll start to lose flexibility over time.
- Use it or lose it. Active pursuits prioritize a narrow range of movements that your body adapts to be optimally efficient at, even at the cost of losing range of motion.
Active Recovery in Minutes If yoga is not your primary passion, it can be hard to find time to dedicate to recovery, which is why I have designed sequences that are 15 minutes long, to fit around your busy schedule.

What Others are Saying "Thank you for these videos, Abi. I've never done yoga before, but they have really helped my back issues and have improved my flexibility and core strength. You're awesome!" - Kevin
"I just wanted to drop you a line to say thanks for your 15 minute videos. My husband sustained a head injury snowboarding almost exactly a year ago. Due to his injury, for a long time he was unable to do any real exercise, which was incredibly hard for someone used to doing hours and hours every week. It's been really cool to see how much more flexible Mark is as a result of daily practice and I have found my strength has improved amazingly. I just wanted to say thanks heaps because your videos have really helped Mark in his recovery when he wasn't able to do much other exercise. It's been calming and enjoyable for me too as I try to find balance between work, kids, study and all the other noise. You're a very good yoga teacher." -Amanda
"You have made an incredible difference for me and I thank you so much. What I have noticed is the sequence of stretches and breathing has improved my alignment and has helped me to equalize the flexibility in my left and right sides--this, in turn, has settled my body tremendously. I have always tried to do physiotherapist recommended stretches but have never had the success I have with your routine. I think doing the other stretches in isolation just doesn't have the same results as one of your workouts." -Dario About Abi Carver Abi is on a mission to bring yoga to men and women, passionate about their active pursuits, who recognize that yoga is a highly effective performance and recovery tool but don't know where to start.
