Fear is the culprit that robs us of the life we desire. Fear is an emotion that can render us powerless. It can take over our choices and actions. And these choices and actions shape our future. The choices we make either whittle away at our self-esteem and confidence or they add to our character, making us feel stronger and more alive. When we are at the hands of the culprit of fear, we make choices based on what we believe will keep us safe. Fear has us believe that we can't do it, we're wrong, the cost is too high, the path ahead is too difficult. Fear makes us shrink in the face of adversity, hide when we need to be seen and keep our mouths shut when our voices need to be heard. Fear keeps us at a standstill. It breeds mediocrity. It guarantees us an unfulfilled life.

Fear can be healthy when it has us look both ways while crossing the street or do due diligence before getting into a business relationship. Fear can be a friend warning us and trying to keep us safe. But toxic fear, birthed out of the wounds of our past and the negative beliefs that we have taken on over the course of our lives, eats away at our soul and robs us of taking action and making choices that will further our heart's desires.

I am going to invite you to meet this fear with a new kind of courage that is not just, as Merriam Webster's defines it, the "mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty." I am going to invite you into a state of being that exists within you right now that needs only to be accessed and activated. Instead of being something that you tap into from time to time, I want you to allow courage to source your choices and infuse your life. Courage is like a muscle that is lying dormant within you. When you exercise this muscle and allow courage to guide the choices you make, you will be lifted out of the gravitational pull of your past and propelled into an infinitely promising future. Through courage, you are granted the ability to make new choices in the areas of your life where you have felt stuck, stagnated or defeated. Courage can fill you with a new sense of possibility and open your eyes to new visions of who we can be and what you! can do in the world. And when you begin to make courageous choices and live a courageous life, you will become awed and inspired by the part of yourself that already has the strength, the power and the freedom to deliver you the life you want to live. You will discover that the greatest act of courage is to be and own all of who you are—you without apology, you without excuses, you without masks to cover the truth of who you are. True courage comes from not just feeling confident and strong but from being your honest authentic expression.

The vision of this life that I am going to invite you to explore during the next 13 lessons has the power to transcend your current reality, to lift you out of the drama and predictability of your day-to-day challenges, to support you in making courageous choices, and to allow you to create extraordinary results.

Regardless of whether your vision is already clear in your mind or whether you've caught only the briefest glimpse of your best life, know that it exists within you, stirring quietly below the surface, waiting to be brought into the full light of day. Once you begin to heed its call, fear, cynicism, resignation and excuses fade away, replaced by a choir of faith hope, enthusiasm, optimism, and passion.

Transformational Action Steps

Start the practice or do the activity that will keep your new vision in your awareness each and every day. Make a list of any fears that arise within you when you contemplate making your vision a reality. Then make a list of actions you can take, people whose help you can solicit, and the resources you can gather in order to overcome your fears.

Courage Activator

Call upon a trusted friend or family member and ask that person to share with you a significant time when you demonstrated great courage. Do your best to receive the validation of what they reflect back to you about yourself.
