A Year to Clear What Is Holding You Back

A Year to Clear What Is Holding You Back

The following is an excerpt from the "A Year to Clear What Is Holding You Back" on-line course. If you would like to enroll in the course, click here.

With all our best intentions and rich resources, why is it so hard to slow down, simplify, and care for ourselves? Why do most clearing efforts fall short or peter out?

Why are we so afraid to let go?

Our drive to attain and succeed comes at a great cost to the soul. We are malnourished, if not starved, when it comes to compassionate self-acceptance, awareness, and care. We yearn for simplicity but struggle to find it. We ache for balance but can't sustain it. There is no time to juggle it all, let alone clear the things and thoughts that have caused us to feel so overwhelmed in the first place.

After years of study, deep inquiry, and personal experience, here's what I know for sure:

  • For clearing to last you need to put yourself first. You won't make a dent in reducing the stress and stuff until you've healed the the patterns that created it. If you don't feel safe, you won't let go. Clearing is an inside job that begins and ends with you.

  • For clearing to last you need to change your mindset. Clearing is not something you "do" or squeeze into your life. It's a way of life - a journey - that doesn't always add up, make sense, or go in a straight line. Clearing is not about "getting rid of." It's about letting go of the things and thoughts that get in the way of realizing your true nature and best life.

  • For clearing to last you need to slow down. Clearing old habits and resisting behaviors is not possible until you slow it ...way ...down. In a world that is all about speed, this requires awareness.

    LET'S GET STARTED!

"The starting point is realizing that letting go is not a dramatic moment we build to some time in the future. It is happening now in the present moment – it is not singular but ongoing."–Judy Lief

It seems we spend half our lives winding ourselves up, like mechanical wind-up toys, and the other half unwinding, or trying to unwind. If we've learned to live well, our unwinding will be even and steady. We'll have energy to spare right up to the very end. If we've wound up our "toy" too tightly or too fast over the years, however, we'll either find ourselves stuck in a lock jam that keeps us spinning in circles, or we'll unwind so fast that we'll careen off the table, hit the wall, and keel over.

This is about how to unwind the slow and steady way.

But it is also about this little mind-bender: You are not the wind-up toy.

Cancer Horoscope: Let Your Ideas Flow

    Let Your Ideas Flow

    April 2, 2017

You may be feeling blocked and frustrated today, which could be because you are holding yourself back. Conserving your energy and creativity for a later date can at first seem beneficial, but if you continue to prevent your ideas from flowing, you might find that your sense of unease only grows. Finding a way to release your blocks could make you feel much better about yourself and your creative ideas. A good idea might be to keep a small journal of ideas that you have about the future but that you may not be able to get to immediately. Doing this can increase your feelings of creativity while at the same time help you to plan future projects. Just seeing your ideas on the page today might give you a feeling of accomplishment and lessen your frustration.

We can break down our mental barriers by allowing our creativity to flow. Even though we may have imaginative ideas, it is easy to feel constrained by our time and energy. It is then easy for us to become discouraged by our limited thinking. The mere act of visualizing and writing down our ideas, however, ignites our creative energy, which makes us feel more optimistic about what we can accomplish. Having a tangible record of our inspirations and thoughts is an important key toward breaking down any barriers we may create. Putting your thoughts down on paper today will give you a chance to creatively work out your ideas and envision what you can achieve.

Spring Blooms With Our Home And Garden Online Courses

Spring Blooms With Our Home And Garden Online Courses

    by Madisyn Taylor
    Dear Friends,

This month in our household we are deep into spring fever and loving it. It seems fitting to have this month dedicated to home and garden, which also includes our animal friends. There is no more natural time to open the windows, give our home a scrub from top to bottom, and throw out clutter. Out in the garden we are already seeing the first of our roses bloom and dreaming about filling our pots with flowers that will bring us joy for the next six months. I'm sure it comes as no surprise that spring is my very favorite time of year. I feel relieved coming out of my winter cave where I have spent months in introspection, and now I have the chance to go out into the world and try out what I have learned about myself.

I have been witnessing nature bring forth new life over these last few weeks as I sit in my home office in rewrites for my next book. I'm happy to announce that I will be having an exciting new book coming out next February and will share details about the content very soon. This is my first book that isn't in my DailyOM series of books, although it is still closely related in content. Stay tuned for more!

In the meantime, I've selected five online courses this month that pertain to home, garden, and our animal friends. Garden in the Buddhist Way

    by Michael Alan Saint

Nature's heart and lungs are the lifeblood of the planet, constantly maintaining the balance essential for sustaining life. A big job to be sure, but we have the power to help with this task by creating sanctuaries where all living things cooperate with nature. It starts in our very own gardens! As we discover the importance of the ecology in our local environment, we develop a higher spiritual awareness and experience a greater connection to the natural world. Using the principals of the Noble Eightfold Path, this course will guide you through incorporating sustainable gardening practices, so you can learn to garden in a way that helps cultivate a refuge for all living things. Through a series of exercises, you will discover the importance of native plants, and that gardens, like forests, should consist of trees, plants, animals, and insects. Regardless of whether you are a gardener or just a citizen concerned about the environment, you will become more conscious of your surroundings as you create a garden where plants not only serve the eye for beauty, but also are functional and help keep our wildlife, insects, arachnids(spiders) and native plant community thriving for future generations.

    Cancer Horoscope: Space For Contemplation

    Space For Contemplation

    April 1, 2017

You may feel like seeking haven in a quiet place to meditate today, for having a few precious moments for solemn contemplation could make you feel a greater sense of inner peace and connectedness with the world. Perhaps you can create a place in your home where you can meditate quietly. This space could be quite simple--maybe just a corner in a room with a few flowers in a vase or a stick of incense in front of a picture of someone who inspires you spiritually. While in this place today, you might do a breathing meditation, counting each of your breaths from one to 10, or a simple insight meditation, noting the thoughts and feelings you have. By setting aside some part of your home that is only used for meditation might inspire you to make reflection and contemplation an essential part of your daily routine.

Meditation is easier if we have a peaceful place free from distractions. The solitude of a meditation room or a corner in our home is something that takes us away from the diversions of our everyday lives and allows us to focus on our spiritual needs. Even if this space is only a pillow in a room, having it serves as a mental reminder that peace is ours if we take the time to integrate our spiritual practice consciously into our lives. Create a place that is filled with your love, good intentions, and desire for greater awareness today, and you will bring a more contemplative spirit to your life.
